Overview
Tank agitators (side entry agitators) from PREMA-SERVICE are mainly used in the chemical and petrochemical industry as well as in refineries and sewage treatment. Our tank agitators are especially suitable for large storage tanks and oil tanks (up to 120 m diameter). Their tasks are the effective mixing of the liquid tank content, the targeted elimination of sediment deposits and the maintenance of a constant temperature in the tank (power range 5–55 kW).
All types of agitators are designed in a modular system in order to ensure the highest possible interchangeability of spare parts. This allows fast repair or additional assembly. Maintenance is simple and designed for longer intervals. The special construction results in an extremely short design and therefore very low torque on the tank wall making bracing and supports unnecessary.
Product portfolio
Our tank agitators are available in different versions:
- Fixed type (F, fix-type) for homogenising/blending refinery products and chemical products
- Swivelling design (S, swivel-type) for the additional prevention of sediment deposits in crude oil or storage tanks and for mixing different storage products
- High temperature version (HT), can be used up to 220°C (428°F, 493.15°K), e.g. for bitumen
- Version with double slide ring seal (for all F, S and HT agitators)
- Special sizes and special agitators are possible
All mixers are also available with ATEX identification EX X II 2G EEx c, k, d T4 according to the explosion protection guideline 2014/34 EC (Zone 1).

Mechanical seal
The proven, long-lasting mechanical seal of our tank agitators is placed at the rear end of the shaft. We can thus ensure the greatest possible protection of the entire system and easy interchangeability and repair. The mechanical seal is available in several variants and is selected depending on the product.
Marine high-flow propeller
Tank agitators from Prema-Service are all equipped with optimised marine high-flow propellers, which offer the following advantages:
- High efficiency
- Welded version
- High balancing type according to DIN ISO 1940-1, therefore with very quiet running
- Available in steel or stainless steel
- Homogeneous distribution of tank contents
- Prevention of sediment deposits
Gears
The special design of the gears offers many advantages:
- undivided shaft
- best possible quiet running
- low wear
- low maintenance
- highest safety against overload
Motors
Our systems are available with or without motors. The standard motors according to IEC and NEMA can be used, the manufacturer can be specified by the customer.
Advantage for the customer: simple spare parts maintenance.
Monitoring equipment
In order to be able to detect problems during operation (e.g. damage to the propeller by foreign bodies in the tank), continuous monitoring of the most important parameters is recommended. Relevant variables are the vibration of the agitator structure, a leakage of the mechanical seal and the temperature of the gears. Monitoring can be ensured both by mobile measuring devices and by permanently installed monitoring devices, whereby only permanently installed devices can ensure timely intervention. With these facilities, it is also possible to automate safety measures.
We offer the following systems:
- Vibration monitoring
- Gear temperature monitoring
- Leakage control (visual and electrical) for mechanical seal
The measuring systems are firmly connected to the agitator and consist of a measuring sensor, terminal box and the associated cabling. As a complete solution, the corresponding control cabinet is also available with measured value evaluation. All elements are also available for Ex-Zone 1.

Automatic swivelling (S-version)
Different types of automatic swivelling are available, ranging from simple, continuous swivelling to PLC-controlled swivelling with position detection and programme control.
